World of Outlaws Benevolent Fund Golf Outing Just Around the Corner
Concord, NC—June 5, 2007--By: Tony Veneziano, WoO Sprint Series PR Director
The inaugural World of Outlaws Benevolent Fund Golf Outing is quickly approaching on Thursday, July 12 at Meadowbrook Country Club in Dayton, Ohio.
The cost of the outing will be $100 for participants, with each 8 golfers being paired with a World of Outlaws driver. The driver will be part of this group for the entire 18 holes. The format will be a scramble, with a lottery-style draw being used to determine who each player will play with. There also will be a hole-in-one contest, with the winner receiving $15,000 if they get a hole-in-one.
For golfers, the entry fee will also cover a dinner to be held after the outing, as well as gifts that each participant will receive. All proceeds will go to the World of Outlaws Benevolent Fund to help continue the dedicated work that it does for the sport. Entries are due by June 15th and limited spots for golf and dinner are still available.
The World of Outlaws Benevolent Fund has been helping injured drivers and their families during the recovery process for over 25 years.
For the World of Outlaws drivers, the event will provide a nice break in the schedule between the Brad Doty Classic at Limaland Motorsports Park and the Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway. Many of the drivers are avid golfers, but have trouble finding time during the season to hit the links.
“Anytime we can get away from the race track with everyone in a non-competitive atmosphere it’s a bit of a change,” said Daryn Pittman, a native of Owasso, Oklahoma. “I am looking forward to it. There are a quite a few people coming to it, and getting on the golf course anytime is fun.”
The World of Outlaws Benevolent Fund is near and dear to Pittman, and he is quick to point out the work that it does for drivers and their families. He is honored to be part of the Golf Outing to help the Benevolent Fund.
“I have received money from the Benevolent Fund, like most everyone else out here that has been out here for a while at one time or another, that has been injured or had to miss some races,” he explained. “It’s a huge help and it’s a great fund and helps a lot of people out. Anything we can do to help the fund raise more money for the future to continue helping people is good.”
Danny Lasoski, the 2001 World of Outlaws champion only gets to golf a few times a year, but he makes the most of each time he is able to take to the course. For the native of Dover, Missouri like many of the other drivers, golfing is a way to relax and get away from the daily grind of life on the road with the World of Outlaws for a few hours.
“We’ll get to let our hair down and go have some fun,” smiled Lasoski. “It’s for a great cause and we appreciate all the people that have been putting out the effort to get it going. We all know that at any time, anything can happen to us, and it’s nice to know that there is something to fall back on.”
Jason Martin is excited for the event, and believes it will come at the perfect time for the drivers and their crews. The month of July is packed with 15 events and will keep everyone in the series on the road for the entire month in the heat of the summer.
“We like to go out and have fun when we golf,” said Martin, a native of Liberal, Kansas. “That will help us relax a little bit before the Kings Royal, because July is a pretty busy month.”
While he does not get to golf as much as he would like during the season, Martin continues to work on his game. He has played at a number of new courses over the last year and a half on the road with the World of Outlaws, including last season in his first trip to the Pacific Northwest and California.
“Golf is like anything else, practice makes perfect,” he said. “It helps to take your mind off the race car, and that is what I like about it.”
Chad Kemenah, the reigning World of Outlaws Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year enjoys golfing on the courses of his home state of Ohio and is excited for the Benevolent Fund Golf Outing. While he too continues to work on his golf game, he is quick to make light of his golfing skills.
“It is for a great cause, with the proceeds going to the Benevolent Fund,” said Kemenah, a native of Findlay, Ohio. “We’ll go out and see how much lawn we can tear up.”
Randy Hannagan has not golfed for a while, but he will take to the links in the World of Outlaws Benevolent Fund Golf Outing on Thursday, July 12. For the veteran driver, the event will provide a chance to see people he does not get to see often when out on the road and also to spend time with his fellow drivers in a relaxed atmosphere.
“I am excited for the event,” said Hannagan, a native of San Jose, who now calls Pittsboro, Indiana home. “A lot of hard work has gone in to planning it, and it will be a great event.”
In addition to the golf, a silent auction will take place during the dinner, with various items from World of Outlaws drivers available for bidding. For those who cannot make it to the golf portion of the day, tickets for the dinner are $30. Auction items include: driver uniforms, helmets signed by all World of Outlaws drivers, driver gloves, t-shirts, die-casts, and many other collector items.
