Daryn Pittman has completed the final preparations to field a dirt midget for the upcoming “T’was the Midgets Before Christmas” at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, MO on December 19-20. As the World of Outlaws schedule came to a close in early November, Pittman’s off-season consisted of seven weeks. That may seem like a lot of time, but it goes by very quickly when building cars for the 2009 WoO season. “Besides making a trip to Memphis for Thanksgiving, we’ve been in the shop everyday getting things ready for next year. There is a ton of work to be done to get ready so we have to take advantage of the time we have,” he said.
With such little time to make preparations for the upcoming World of Outlaws season, one would wonder why Pittman would take on even more responsibility preparing a dirt midget. “I love racing midgets. They are a lot of fun to drive and I usually only get the chance to do it once a year. For me, the timing of the Kansas City race is perfect. I had already committed to running the Chili Bowl and I wasn’t leaving for Australia until the following week, so it just made sense to race both events. It is more exposure for my sponsor Bob Hurley Ford and Bob Hurley GMC and they can come and see the car race twice relatively close to Tulsa, OK. Plus it doesn’t pay too bad, not to mention it just makes more sense to race the car twice instead of just once at the Chili Bowl. Besides, what else are you going to do in the middle of winter?” asks Pittman.
Pittman’s winters typically consist of traveling to Australia to race the Titan Garages and Carports sprint car for Australian car owner Reeve Kruck. This winter will be no different. “We leave next Wednesday for Australia to race the World Series Sprint Week, the $50,000 Parramatta show and the $20,000 Titan Race at Brisbane. I think we are racing 10 of the 18 days we are there so there won’t be much time to relax, which is fine with me. We come back just in time for the Chili Bowl, then have about 10 days until we leave for Florida. It is always pretty hectic getting everything in line, but we manage to get it done every year,” said Pittman.
But for now the focus is on Kansas City, MO and the first indoor auto-racing event ever held in Kemper Arena. Sponsors on Pittman’s Spike Chassis, Esslinger-powered midget include Bob Hurley Ford, Bob Hurley GMC, BPG-Business Planning Group Danny’s Auto Salvage and Hop n’ Sack Convenience Stores. Ricky Ehrgott will also be driving a Bob Hurley midget as Daryn’s teammate at both midget events. To learn more about Daryn Pittman and Titan Racing visit
