Mandy’s Monthly!- March
Rain Rain GO AWAY and don‘t come back on race day!!
As most of you are aware a driver gets paid based off the amount of money the car makes per night. Needless to say, not much racing = not much money! Anyway, it has been the same for everyone, and we did get a few shows in during the month. We took at road trip to PA to race at Selinsgrove, Lincoln, and The Grove; but the rained followed us and we only got Lincoln in. We finished 4th, but it was great to see some of our PA fans. It was actually a really good showing with tons of cars, and the feature was a great race.
We also ventured to OKC for the ASCS race. There has been a lot of criticism from certain individuals bashing 410 racers and some of their comments about 360 racing. Daryn has raced many 360 races; in fact that is the series in which he began his career . My dad owns a 360 team and I grew up at the track with him racing 360s. It is amazing to me that criticism happens when we go and race other shows besides WOO, but then also when we do not show up for those races. I guess the saying is true: Damned if you do and damned if you don’t!! I will explain: Daryn’s comment to
Kevin Eckert about the ASCS race when he said “it does not pay enough.” Not meaning ASCS does not pay enough meaning the drive for the money was not enough. We raced in PA the first weekend because it was $10,000 to win for 3 days and only 9 hours. Dallas was 15 hours and $6000 to win. The math seems easy to me.
Anyway, off of the soap box. It was nice to see our family and faithful fans at OKC; and spend Easter with them. Whataburger was nice too! We were locked into the Saturday main after finishing 3rd on Friday night. We started on the front row with Jason Johnson, and they had a spectacular race. They raced side by side for at least 10 laps, and just when it looked like we had a small edge Daryn hit the infield tire coming off of turn 2. He limped it home despite a broken drag link finishing 9th. We have told him that we are going to install the “curb feelers” on the front of the car for him. Haha A special thanks to Gene for allowing us to use his motor, and I am sure we will be using it again sometime soon since we have a few 1 day WOO shows coming up. Last note about racing: The phrase “cherry picking” does not even enter our minds when we go to an ASCS race or any other race for that matter. ASCS drivers are some of the best in the business and we are all just looking for places to race since that is what we do for a living!
Off time has been in an abundance these days and we have found some crazy things to do to occupy our time. Daryn & Glenno have been flying their remote control planes (about 3 feet long and made of Styrofoam) next door at the makeshift REV airport! Daryn has made 5 successful complete takeoffs and landings and Glenno well…let’s just say a couple. It seems like we at least have a box of parts coming in weekly….$3 props, $5 cowling, $2 wing struts. Even if you totally destroy (which has only happened 2x) the $160 plane it costs about $30 max. to fix it. The rescue of the plane is usually better than the flying. The boys have been in trees and even on top of buildings looking for the damaged plane.
Needless to say with all of our time the tshirt trailer got reorganized and even a new flat screen tv installed so that we can show videos to the fans. Stop by and check it out along with our new Pittman & TMAC “Crazy Combo!” - tshirt, hat, koozie, and dust goggles….$25!
We head to Pevely, MO this weekend and I am excited since that is my favorite track!! Hopefully, the weather holds off and we can get it in! Look for us at the WOO shows, ASCS shows, and even local shows…you never know where we might show up! Chat next month
